Pet Fox Keeping
This adorable image depicts a young girl posing with her pet fox in front of a 1946 Dodge business coupe. Embraced in her arms, the animal — most likely a juvenile red fox (red for kit) — sports a classy leather leash and collar. Although not formally recognized as being domesticated, humans have long kept foxes as exotic companions, with recorded bonds between the two dating back to ancient times.
Common species kept within the home include the red, silver, gray, fennec and arctic foxes. Belonging to the canine family, they are appreciated for their dog-like traits and witty personalities. As of 2026, pet foxes are legal in 15 U.S. states, with ownership typically including litter box training and socializing, much like other more common animal friends.
