1948 Built-In Aquarium on Train Car

C&O Plans Railway Innovations

Cleveland, Ohio: the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway will introduce new passenger cars shortly, incorporating features never before seen on the railroads. One of the innovations expected to receive public acclaim is the “family coach,” each equipped with a children’s motion picture theater, a play room, a diapering room, and a ‘twenty-eight-passenger coach section where parents may sit with their offspring. There are also tavern-lounge cars, soda fountains, luncheonette counters, and double-car diners. Regular coaches will include free, individual baggage lockers, writing desks, and exhibit cases. First public showing takes place on Oct. 11.

Fish will keep you company if you choose to ride in the C&O’s Chessie tabern lounge car. Each lounge is equipped with an aquarium. C&O Aquarium favors goldfish.
