Parlor Aquarium

Jul 8, 2022

Since our friend Emiliano wrote a wonderful article this month on Parlor Aquariums I thought we would showcase a recent acquisition of an American-made Parlor Aquarium. We are not sure which iron foundry made this small 12-gallon size aquarium but it is the smallest in gallonage in the collection.

We do know that it belonged to the heirs of the SunMade Raison family and was set up (with goldfish probably) in their beautiful Victorian mansion in Fresno, California.
What separates American-made Parlor aquariums from the fancier ones made in Europe is the U.S. ones were made entirely of iron with no zinc plus there was never an elaborate steam engine pump that came with the U.S. ones.
