The Hotel Canarien Birdcage
This spectacular large wood-and-wire birdcage was handmade in the U.S. between the 1890s and the 1910s. This cage would have housed a serious canary breeder’s prized canaries. The cage itself was originally painted green, but a skilled artist repainted it yellow with an intricate pattern of flowers, birds, etc. Our skilled restorer spent several hours remaking missing wooden parts on this cage, plus she remade the flag from an aluminum soda can! This cage was much loved as seldom do we see a 100+ year old wood & wire cage in such good condition!
